Energy Efficiency - Booklet

Energy Efficiency is one of the most critical issues affecting the prospects for successful deployment of 5G. This compact, informative report begins by outlining the original requirements for 5G, both in terms of performance and energy efficiency. it then goes on to cover the most promising avenues for achieving outstanding 5G efficiency - the optimal management of base stations (e.g. through the advantageous use of sleep modes), spatial multiplexing, beamforming, improved battery life, reduction of energy consumption by auxiliary equipment and increased hardware efficiency.

Benchmark - 5G in Japan

This report aims at analysing 5G deployment in Japan. As it was the case for 3G, the ambition of Japan is to be a leading country in 5G networks deployment.
Today, Japan occupies the fourth position in the global 5G race. Tests in several cities have already been implemented, but mainly with other telecommunication actors or in specific conditions such as in stadiums, in trains or in cars. The next step will be to focus on the security of Japanese citizens’ telecommunication system. 5G in Japan focuses on areas where there is potential for creating new applications and markets: automotive and public transport, smart manufacturing and cybersecurity, wireless cloud-based office and healthcare.
