Smart5Grid - Millisecond Level Precise Distribution Generation Monitoring

In support of the constantly increasing number of small and geographically spread RES production assets, this demo provides RES producers and Grid operators with a low-cost, real-time and reliable solution for better visibility, predictability and control of the RES asset performance and enables an improved maintenance capability and eligibility for flexibility exchange participation.

Demonstration setup: Multiple electrical, technical and environmental signals and measurements from the Scada system and IoT sensors of a Wind farm are communicated by MQTT protocol over 5G. NetApp visualises and records the signals with VNFs modules on the Smart5Grid platform, allowing the users (RES owners and Grid operator) to monitor the real-time and historical asset performance. The signals are recorded on a cloud-based DB to be further analysed and utilised for improved maintenance, acting as an enabler for predictive maintenance. The platform is designed for Hydro, Solar and Wind Power Plants.
