IIoT and URLLC Enhancements

The mapping of common requirements at the 2nd 5G Vertical User Workshop (July 2019) was a cross-vertical industry collaboration on defining URLLC (ultra reliable low latency communications) for the Industrial Internet of Things and relevant uses in other verticals.

Action points from the interactive discussions include

  •  Focusing activities on header compression aspects and post 3GPP Release-16 enhancements.

According to Steffen Schmitz from Volkswagen, URLLC and time-sensitive networking is a key enabler for advanced factory automation.

Relevant verticals and associations: IIoT (5G-ACIA), automotive factory processes (5GAA), broadcasting (EBU).
