BlueSpace: Broadband Access in crowded areas

Home » BlueSpace: Broadband Access in crowded areas

This blueSPACE proof of concepy focuses on technology solutions that provide high data rate service to a large number of concentrated mobile users, including mainly the provision of services at large events, e.g., a football game or a concert, or crowded public areas (e.g. open squares, large metro stations).

The targeted service data rate is 25 Mbps for the DL and 50 Mbps for the UL, mainly for video / photo sharing. Due to high concentration, an area traffic density of up to 3.5 Tbps/km^2 for the DL and 7 Tbps/km^2 for the UL is assumed. The blueSPACE SDM enabled optical fronhaul infrastructure provides the technology and control plane solutions to aggregate the high data rate service connectivity demands and optimally allocated spatial, spectral and RF resources.

In terms of 5G functionalities, blueSPACE investigates:

  • Ultra-high bandwidth per user.
  • Ultra-high fronthaul capacity.
  • Low latency services.
  • Processing and storage functionalities at CO.
