BlueSpace: Indoor Ultra-high Broadband Access

Home » BlueSpace: Indoor Ultra-high Broadband Access

This blueSPACE proof of concept aims at providing high data rates for indoor hotspots. The scenario utilises on one hand the ultra-high broadband connectivity offered by the specially designed blueSPACE small cells that operate at 26GHz-18GHz and the massive deployment of such small cells over an area that is supported by the SDM-extended optical fronthaul infrastructure of blueSPACE.

The target is to provide ultra-high capacity connectivity of 1 Gbps for the DL and 500 Mbps for the UL over an indoor office area, while also interconnect many such sites in a business or public sector area of a city to a common pool of BBUs at the CO.

A mixture of services is assumed for the traffic density, mostly related to cloud storage services , desk cloud services and video conferencing. A connection density of 75,000 users/km^2 is considered, reaching up to 15 Tbps/km^2 for the DL and 2 Tbps/km^2 for the UL.

In terms of 5G functionalities, blueSPACE investigates:

  • High user density + high bandwidth per user.
  • Ultra-high fronthaul capacity.
  • Slicing and multi-vendor support.
